LTO 7: Drivers can trade in their OR for a driver’s license card starting today.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 will today start printing driver’s license cards, which was halted last year due to the lack of supply. LTO 7 OIC-Director Alita Pulga said it will done at the Driver’s License Renewal Office at SM City Cebu at 3 p.m. “We are inviting the media to help us disseminate to the public that at last we have already the supply of cards for driver’s license,” she said. She said the cards that will be printed will cover the backlog as of October 2016.

The total backlog for the period from Aug. 25, 2015 to Oct. 31, 2016 is 211,197 licenses. Second batch “Those transacted from Nov. 2, 2016 and onwards with a five-year validity will be released in the second quarter of 2017,” she said. The printing and issuance of the license cards are free because the drivers already paid when they applied for a new license or renewed their license. Pulga said that because they expect many people to claim their driver’s license cards, they are giving options due to limited office space in LTO offices. First, the drivers cay drop a photocopy of the official receipt (OR), which serves as temporary license, with his/her contact number written at the back at designated drop-boxes at the entrance of LTO offices and of SM City Cebu, SM Seaside, SM Consolacion and SM Lapu-Lapu City. Other options She said the ORs will be collected every morning and afternoon and then printed.

Second, drivers may send a copy of the OR with their contact numbers to email address or fax it to telephone numbers 032-2562745 and 032-2661304. Third, drivers can text to 09188073502 their name, license number and contact number. “Then we will print their cards and inform them through their given contact number as to where and when to claim their cards,” Pulga said. She also asked the public for their understanding and patience. “We are faced with 211,197 backlogs. We will be putting up kiosks in four SM malls where our clients can claim their cards,” Pulga said.
